Romantic Lighting

Why do you suppose romantic lighting, like our Secret Garden Lamp, is one of the most popular items at Magnolia Hall?  Lamps are a key element in interior design.  After all, think about how many times you turn on a lamp, or look to see if a lamp is on high?  We constantly see them and use them.  They are pretty hard to ignore!  So, it’s not surprising that people want their lighting to “make a statement”, like our Pink Roses Lamp.

Little wonder, then, that our fabric shade lamps are a key decorating find. Our Silk Shades capture the nostalgia of the period.  To give you more designing flexibility, you can interchange many lamp/base combinations.  So, If you see a shade, but are not so happy with the base, we can customize a lamp for you to better suite your personal taste.  Notice how different the Classic Bouquet Lamp looks on two different bases. What’s more, we can even put one fabric on another shade frame!  Yes, Romantic Lighting is a key element in interior design!  But, home lighting wasn’t always viewed as a decorating feature.

At the start of the Victorian period most houses were lit by candles and oil lamps. This type of lighting could be a little messy, as well as hazardous.  Many a home were burned to the ground by an open-flamed lamp that turned over.  By the end of the period gas lighting was common in urban homes and electricity was being introduced in many. As the novelty wore off and the short life span of the bulb was recognized, attention turned back to the shade and the fittings themselves.

Today, lamps can set the tone for an entire room.  An excellent example of this is the Golden Glory Lamp.
